Great River Homes, Inc. provides Individualized Home Supports (IHS) with Training and IHS with Family Training to empower individuals with developmental disabilities—and the people who support them—to build skills, strengthen independence, and enhance everyday life. The with training component of this service provides skill building and instructional services to acquire, retain and/or improve the person’s experience living in the community. This training takes place in a community setting or within the persons own home. The allowable community living service categories for this service are community participation; health, safety and wellness; household management; adaptive skills. The training that is provided meets identified needs specified in the person’s MnCHOICES assessment.
Our IHS with Training services focus on helping individuals develop essential skills needed to live as independently as possible in their own homes and communities. Through personalized, goal-directed instruction, our trained staff provide support in areas such as problem-solving, decision-making, communication, household management, personal care routines, budgeting, social skills, health and wellness, and community engagement. We work collaboratively with each person to build confidence, increase self-sufficiency, and open doors to greater opportunities.
In addition, our IHS with Family Training services are designed to equip family members and caregivers with the knowledge, tools, and strategies needed to support their loved one’s growth and well-being. Training may include skill-development techniques, safety planning, daily living support strategies, understanding individual needs, and fostering positive routines. By working together with families, we strengthen the overall support system and help create consistent, nurturing environments.
