The Tenth Annual Grumpy Plunge was held in the Mississippi River in Wabasha, MN during the Grumpy Old Men Festival on Saturday, February 24, 2018. Forty eight brave plungers raised money to help further the missions of Great River Homes, Inc. and the Rotary Club of Wabasha. All of the proceeds from The Grumpy Plunge support these two non-profit organizations and improve the quality of life in our community.
Plungers collecting pledges this year were: Brielle Adams, Jessalyn Adams, Kayla Anderson, Nate Alvin, Tad Boardman, Sharon Burke, Jennifer Christoffer, Ileana DeAngel, Matt Eulger, Bill Fay, Maia Fries, Jim Freihammer, Ben Glomski, Julie Halverson, Ron Hamilton, Erin Henrichs, Dylan Jacques, Graham Klaus, Charlie Klein , Deb Koopman, Jada Koopman, Jaxon Lackey, Lilah Lackey, Gracelyn Leichtnam, Julie Leichtnam, Leland Leichtnam, Sydney Leichtnam, Jesse Litscher, Matt Lytle, David Miller, Chris Minter, Curt Minter, Jason Newby, Patrick Olson, Hali Peterson, Jack Rodeghier, Paul Rogers, Devin Simon, Shaun Spencer, Taylor Treiner, Brynn Weinandt, John Weinandt, Michael Weinandt, Ryan Weinandt, Rich White, Zachary White, Jeff Wilkinson,and Malissa Wooner.
An Award Ceremony was held following the plunge. The individual with the best costume was Shaun Spencer, the couple with the best costume was the Wabasha- Kellogg Dance Team, and the team best costume award went to Jesse James and his Outlaws. Jeff Wilkinson of Phoenix, Arizona received the award for traveling the farthest. The plunger who raised the most money was Sharon Burke of Wabasha who has won the award seven of ten years.
Many thanks to everyone who helped make the plunge a success. Award winners were presented with plaques donated by Wild Wings of Lake City. Pure Identity Salon and Spa of Wabasha donated a one-hour massage to the top fundraiser, Sharon Burke. Slippery’s Bar and Grill hosted the event and donated spaghetti dinners to all plungers. HBC promoted and videotaped the event. The Wabasha-Kellogg Chamber/CVB helped publicize the event. The City of Wabasha was also instrumental in the plunge by providing an ambulance crew on standby, ice removal, relocating the dock, providing safety vests and safety cones.
The Grumpy Plunge would not have been possible without the volunteers, the plungers and all of the donors who pledged financial support, as well as the Grumpy Plunge sponsors.
